Small tools that just work.
funteas exists because most “free online tools” ask you to hand over your files to a server you know nothing about — and then show you four banners while you wait.
What this is
A growing set of single-purpose tools that run entirely in your browser. Today there is one: an image compressor that hits an exact file size limit. More will follow, each doing one thing properly rather than ten things badly.
Why local processing
Any task a browser can do on your own machine does not need to happen on someone else's. Compression, resizing and format conversion are pure computation — there is no reason for your photo of a passport, a medical scan or a signed contract to travel across the internet, sit in a temporary folder on a server, and depend on someone's promise to delete it.
Doing the work locally removes that entire category of risk. It also removes the server bill, which is why the tools can stay free without a paywall or a file-size upsell.
How it works
The compressor uses the browser's built-in Canvas API to decode, scale and re-encode your image. It searches for the highest encoder quality that still fits within your target size, and only reduces the image dimensions when quality alone cannot get there. Everything is plain JavaScript; there is no framework and no third-party library involved.
Principles
- One tool, one job. No bundle, no dashboard, no upsell.
- No account. Nothing to sign up for, nothing to remember.
- No upload. If a task cannot be done locally, it does not belong here.
- No watermark. The output is yours, unmarked.
What we do not do
- No accounts, no sign-up, no email required
- No uploads, no server-side storage
- No file limits or “upgrade to continue” walls
- No behavioural tracking or advertising profiles
